American bride and groom, Tarika and Nick wanted a unique experience on their wedding day that was personal and reflected their relationship, life and story so far. Even though Nick spent a number of years working in Thailand (he also speaks Thai), he didn’t meet his future wife Tarika until he returned to the States. They first met in Redlands, California and not too long after, Nick proposed romantically down on one knee, with Tarika’s engagement ring from fine jewellers Emerson and Farrar.

Nick and Tarika’s guests travelled all the way from America to celebrate their special day at the ocean view wedding in Phuket, Thailand. Celebrations began the evening before with pre wedding drinks at the luxurious Palm Seafood restaurant in Phuket, where we took our first photos of the bride and groom and the entire wedding party. It was a fun and relaxed evening with all the guests enjoying the balmy weather.

The very next day we headed to their luscious wedding day villa with breath-taking views over the ocean, making it a perfect location for an intimate wedding day affair, shared with their closest friends and family. This is when Stam and I really got a sense of Tarika’s and Nick’s beautiful bond for one another. Tarika’s bridal gown by designer Lihi Hod was simply elegant, with new earrings from Nadri and a bracelet “something borrowed” by one of her chief bridesmaids Michelle, who wore the same bracelet on her wedding day. Tarika let her three bridesmaids chose their own dresses, she just wanted them to wear white to be like her.

The weather was perfect, and the ceremony over the pool was just fabulous, a really good event put on by the girls at The Wedding Bliss and flower arrangements by I am flower. We asked the bride and groom to tell us what their favourite wedding day moments were, Nick said “The baby elephant trying to smooch my bride vs. our wedding cake” and Tarika said “My mother’s very awkward wedding day speech.”

The baby elephant came to the cocktail hour before we took the newlyweds off for their portraits and quiet time together, on the beach and around the mountain roads close to the villa. We then returned for the uplifting speeches, and musical entertainment by Thai sextet jazz band Mellow Motif.

Nick and Tarika’s wedding was so relaxed and enjoyable, they are two of our most favourite people we have worked with to date and it was a true honour to be there to capture their special wedding day memories.
