Intimate, Relaxed Wedding: Gemma and Kris
Gemma and Kris held their intimate, relaxed wedding at Pimalai Resort and Spa on a sun-drenched March day in Koh Lanta, Thailand.
We had previously shot their pre-wedding portraits in Bangkok, at a stunning derelict lighthouse, Bang Rak, so we came into this wedding with a better understanding of this lovely couple and were able to take some of our best photographs of the year.
With just 33 guests in attendance, the wedding was truly family-focused, and had the most wonderful atmosphere of support and closeness. It was also laid-back in the traditional Australian way, as both bride and groom live in Australia.
The “romantic, classic, and rustic”-themed wedding was planned by both Pimalai’s in-house team and Natasha Yelland at Creative Events Asia.
Pimalai had arranged for a fireworks show, fire displays, and a baby elephant, but, to the wedding party’s surprise, an adult elephant turned up instead! This, in fact, made for our most iconic image of the year. Using Profoto B1 lighting on the couple, we created an unbelievable photograph of Gemma and Kris, lit up, beside a silhouetted wedding party and the majestic elephant.
The day was also made special by a performance from singer Mr. Touch, and by the stories told by Kris’s parents in their speeches, about their journey from their birthplace, Poland, to their home in Australia.
The bride and groom left their guests, all from Australia, with unique wedding favours to remind them of their time in Thailand: batik fans, and personalised “stubby holders” from Etsy.
Liam Collard Photography was truly delighted to have the chance to work with such an amazing couple, and to capture hundreds of special moments from their most important day together.
